Member of the American Academy of Sciences Appointed as the Chair Scientist of BAIC
Recently the appointment ceremony of professor Richard Dixon, member of the American Academy of Sciences, has taken placed in our university. On behalf of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center(BAIC), president Song Weiming signed the contract with professor Richard Dixon. Vice president Zhang Chuang served as the master of ceremony.
During the appointment ceremony, president Song particularly learned about the academic experiences and achievements of professor Richard, and he pointed out that now BFU lies in an important period for becoming a prestigious worldwide university. Undoubtedly the addition of professor Richard to BAIC would help us develop world-class disciplines, and specially contribute a lot to the talents cultivation in subjects like forestry biology and forestry.
President Song highlighted that the basic target of BAIC was to build a high-level and international platform for exchanging advancements in tree breeding by molecular design, as well as for introducing talents worldwide. To achieve it, BAIC had to pay more attention to make good use of leading figures in international society, and strengthen the efforts to introduce talents from all over the world. Currently, BFU develops rapidly in different aspects, and the talents like Richard Dixon’s addition will create new opportunities for our development. BAIC should make good use of this precious chance, and improve our scientific capability in tree breeding by molecular design with unremitting efforts.
About Richard Dixon:
Richard Dixon was born in 1953 in the UK. During 1969 -1976, he studied in the University of Oxford and got bachelor, master and doctoral degree. In 1976, he was employed in Cambridge University. In 1982, he became a lifelong professor of the University of London. In 2007, he was elected as member of the American Academy of Sciences and in 2016 elected as the chairman of American Plants Biology Society.
